PCI named Supplier of the Year for Fleetwood Goldco Wyard Back |
Press Release For Immediate Release Precision Cut Industries (PCI), a Hanover Pa based manufacturer, was recently recognized as Fleetwood Goldco Wyard’s Supplier of the Year for 2007. PCI specializes in high-tech solutions to the metal industry via its laser cutting and robotic manufacturing capabilities. With 8 laser machines, PCI is one of the largest laser cutting companies on the East Coast.
Fleetwood Goldco Wyard, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is a supplier of conveyor systems to the food and beverage industry and an integral part of the Barry-Wehmiller Corporation, which produces annual sales in excess of $1 billion. Fleetwood Goldco Wyard and PCI have worked closely to integrate their manufacturing processes to provide benefits to both parties in the development of their joint partnering relationship.
PCI’s relationship with Fleetwood Goldco Wyard started out as a job shop relationship between a manufacturer and a laser part supplier. That relationship has now evolved into a significantly more productive partnership for both. Two noteworthy aspects of the relationship that have changed over the years include the work that is being done and the business relationship that has evolved.
What began as simply laser cutting of parts today includes laser cutting, bending, welding and machining of much more complex parts that are integrated into Fleetwood Goldco Wyard’s manufacturing process.
The evolution of the business relationship has been even more dramatic. A typical relationship between a vendor and a manufacturer involves the manufacturer presenting drawings and the vendor quoting on the part. That was essentially the relationship between PCI and Fleetwood Goldco Wyard years ago. Today, the engineering, pricing and logistics capabilities of PCI are much more integrated into the manufacturing process of Fleetwood Goldco Wyard. There is not a requirement that new parts be individually quoted. A standard pricing approach for virtually all work means that production can move forward quickly to implement new parts, changes and modifications with the full knowledge by both partners that the pricing will be mutually advantageous.
